Chicken Treat Recipe

Homemade Chicken Treats Homemade Treats for Chickens

Oh words, how they matter. Example: when you type “homemade chicken treats” into a search engine you’ll get an altogether different result than when you type “Homemade treats for chickens.”  In one case the chicken is the treat and in the other it is the recipient of one. An important distinction, particularly from the fowl’s perspective. Or is that foul? This recipe speaks to the latter: a winter treat for your backyard hens involving categorically non-chicken ingredients.
Your flock will love you for it, and by love I mean they will devour it greedily without so much as a backward glance in your direction while you chortle adoringly and tell yourself they treasure you. They probably treasure you. I’m certain they treasure you. But best square your shoulders and take a deep breath before embarking on this particular recipe adventure my little chickadees, for it will likely to be the strangest concoction ever to slid across your oven rack. Or is it wrack? Oh, words.
Ingredients
– Dried mealworms
– millet
– oat meal
– Raisins

Directions
Proportion doesn’t matter a whole lot. Cook oatmeal with half a cup less liquid than called for, allow to cool completely. Combine ingredients, press into a bake-safe pan and dry in the oven for an hour at 200 degrees.
Cut into bars and present to your girls as a delicious distraction on a blustery day. Record your Hens Gone Wild amateur video. Feel treasured.

My partner, dog, and cats give me sideways glances, as if I’ve gone mad, while they observe me laughing uncontrollably at my computer screen. It’s all your fault (or is it the CHICKENS’ fault!) Thanks for the new morning kick-start.
